Abstract
Background: Chronic renal disease and the treatment procedures such as hemodialysis affect the lifestyle, health status, and functions of the patients. All of these changes can impact on the quality of their lives. Accordingly, considering the increasingly large number of hemodialysis patients in our country and in the world, the present study aimed to determine the quality of life in hemodialysis patients who had undergone hemodialysis in the educational centers of Iran University of Medical Sciences. Material and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study included 202 patients who had received hemodialysis in an educational center of Iran University of Medical Sciences. The subjects were selected by a convenient sampling method. The data were collected using "Ferrans & Powers Quality of Life Index, Dialysis Version" and the demographic data form. Findings: The findings confirmed that 54%, 45.5%, and 5% of the patients had high, moderate, and low quality of life respectively. Conclusion: Quality of life has been shown to be a predictor of important outcomes such as survival, mortality, and morbidity. Therefore, understanding the factors that affect quality of life can promote health and well-being and can increase survival in hemodialysis patients.
