Background: Substance dependency is a deviation that in many years exposed the humankind to the risk situation and in the recent century, youths are the main victims of it. Because of our social traits that youths contain the most population of it and because of numerous complication of addiction in this population, then people entry in treatment program is important and in this process assessment of motivation is considerable.
Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative- phenomenological study. Participants in this study were 12 youths with the mean range of 18 to 30 years old that were selected with purposive sampling method. Data were collected with in-depth interview and data analysis was done via Colaizzi method.
Findings: All of the participants in this study were male, 10 numbers of them were single and 2 numbers were divorced and 91% of them had free job. 2 themes or main concepts were derived from this study that each of these them has any sub them; these 2 themes are: internal and external motivations for referring or seeking treatment.
Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that both internal and external motivations are important in referring for treatment in youths with substance dependency. The main important factors that related to this motivations were; physical and psychological factors (as internal motivations) and economical, social and familial factors (as external motivations).
