Background & Aim:Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) Surgery is known as one of the most common surgery methods accompanied by mental complications such as anxiety and depression that could have poor outcomes. It seems that in these patients, preoperative anxiety is at its highest level, and a week later, its till will be higher than normal. Hence this study was conducted to determine the level of anxiety in these patients.       
 Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the anxiety levels of 100 patients undergoing CABG, in Ahvaz Naft Hospital in 2011, were examined. They selected by convenience sampling method. Data was collected through self-reporting method using Spielberger Anxiety Inventory to measure anxiety scores before and one week post-surgery. Data analyzed with descriptive statistics and t-test.
 
Results: Anxiety mean (S.D) before and one week after surgery were respectively, 38.86±12.23, 36.34±10.86. There was a significant difference between anxiety scores before and one week after surgery (P=0.014) that indicated that the rate of anxiety was reduced one week after the surgery.
 Conclusion: One patients who are waiting for coronary artery bypass surgery should be routinely assessed for anxiety before the procedure, and interventions to prevent or reduce anxiety should be provided.
