Background & Aim: Report writing as a framework and important means for providing and evaluating nursing care is essential. The most important recommended methods for reporting in medical centers are traditional reporting, abnormal cases reporting, computerized reporting, standard and problem-oriented reporting methods. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of problem-based and traditional reporting methods on the characteristics of nursing reporting.
 
Material & Methods: This was a quasi-experimental, before and after (semi-experimental one group) study carried out among the nurses in the public Ahvaz Golestan Hospital. 27 nurses were randomly selected from the population and were placed in two groups of before and after intervention. Problem-based reporting workshop was held for experimental group. Data was collected with checklist. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed ranks test, T-test and chi square tests were performed using SPSS version 21.
 
Results: The findings showed a significant difference using the Wilcoxon test between the mean scores of nursing report and the two groups of before and after intervention (p < 0.001). So that in all cases the problem-based method had a higher mean allocated to it than the traditional method.
Conclusion: According to the findings, teaching problem-based reporting has positive impact on the characteristics of nurse reporting. Accordingly using this method by nurses is suggested.
