Abstract
Background and Aim: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the endocrinedisorders among women of reproductive age with high prevalence and different metabolic, reproductive and psychological consequences that clarifies the necessity of doing research in this regard. The main aim of this research was to compare the relationship between self efficacy and quality of life of women with polycystic ovary syndrome and healthy women.
Materials and Methods: This research was carried out via a sectional comparative method on 129 women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome and 125 healthy women. Available sampling method was employed using the Rotterdam criteria. Women from both the research and the control groups responded to the WHOQOL-BREF and GSE–10 questionnaires. The Data was then analyzed using multiple statistical methods, including the Pearson’s coefficient, regression, t-test and multivariate analysis of variance. Results: The quality of life was significantly lower among the women from the research group compared to the healthy group (p < 0.001). But the observed difference of self-efficacy between the research and the healthy group was not statistically significant. There was a positive correlation between self-efficacy and the quality of life and also self-efficacy could predict the quality of life in the healthy group and the whole sample. Conclusions: It seems to be essential to increase awareness, screening and referring process in order to take advantage of the advisory services to improve psychological factors in both PCOS and healthy women.
