Positive Emotional Memory Measurement in Adolescents: Psychometric Properties and Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the Early Memories of Warmth and Safeness Scale in Kermanshah Students' Population in the 2011-2014 academic year

Abstract
Background and Aim: Voluntary and non-voluntary retrieve of unpleasant memories stored in emotional memory have a high correlation with psychopathological. The aim of the current study was to determine the factor structure and psychometric properties of Positive Emotional Memory Scales in Adolescents.
 
Materials and Methods: The study carried out in format of the correlational study design. The statistical population of this study consisted of all students aged 13 to 18 years old in academic year of 2016-2017 were studying in Kermanshah City. The study sample of exploratory factor analysis were 320 students of Kermanshah city that were selected by multistage cluster sampling. The research sample in the confirmatory factor analysis was 230 students that were selected through multi-stage cluster sampling and filed out the instruments of Early Memories of Warmth and Safeness Scale (EMWSS), the positive and negative affect schedule, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21) and the cognitive ability and social wellbeing scale (for divergent validity). For data analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Pearson correlation by applying SPSS-22 and AMOS-21 were used.
 
Results: There was an inverse and significant relationship between positive emotional memory and negative emotions, depression, anxiety and stress (p < 0.001). Also, there was a positive and significant relationship between positive emotional memory with positive emotions, cognitive abilities and social well-being (P≤0.001). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the whole scale was 909.0, for the safety factor 762.0 and for the Gram factor of 925.0.
 Conclusion: The Persian version of the positive emotional memory questionnaire in students has acceptable psychometric properties and can be used as a valid tool in psychological researchs.
