Abstract
Introduction: The complex process of tooth development, from primary to permanent dentition, is influenced by various factors that can lead to developmental anomalies in tooth shape, size, and structure. Fusion and gemination are among the most common anomalies observed. Fusion involves the joining of two or more tooth germs, which can affect both primary and permanent dentition and may include normal or supernumerary teeth. In contrast, gemination is the incomplete division of a single tooth germ, resulting in a tooth with a double crown. These conditions are frequently asymptomatic and, if aesthetically acceptable, typically do not require treatment. However, in cases with functional or aesthetic concerns, a multidisciplinary approach is recommended to manage the complexities associated with fused or geminated teeth.
Case Report: A 40-year-old female patient presented to the prosthetic department with complaints of a loose crown. After a prosthetic treatment plan was established, she was referred to the endodontic department for non-surgical root canal retreatment.
Conclusion: Given the complexities involved in treating teeth with anomalies such as fusion, a multidisciplinary approach is optimal for achieving the best treatment outcomes. This study highlights the importance of a comprehensive treatment plan for patients with dental anomalies.
