Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the predictive factors of COVID-19 reinfection after vaccination among the medical staff of Shahid Rahimi Hospital in Khorramabad.
Method: In this cross-sectional study, 300 vaccinated medical staff working in Shahid Rahimi Hospital in Khorramabad city in 2021 were included in the study by the convenience sampling method. All personnel with positive PCR or CT scan results showing infection with covid-19 were diagnosed as new infected individuals after vaccination. The required information was collected through a form of demographic characteristics and information related to the coronavirus vaccine and compliance with health protocols. Chi-square tests and odds ratio calculations were used to analyze the data.
Results: Altogether, 39 (13.6%) individuals were reported as reinfected cases with Covid-19 after vaccination program. Most cases were infected after getting the first dose of vaccine. The mean duration of post-vaccination infection was three weeks after vaccination and the incidence of reinfection in recovered Covid-19 patients was not associated with their job and the type of received vaccine. There was a significant statistical relationship between age (p= 0.019), sex (p= 0.007), history of not being infected with Covid-19 before the vaccination (p= 0.005), history of chronic diseases (p= 0.029), history of diabetes (p= 0.005), working ward (p= 0.019), no regular wearing of mask at work (p= 0.047) and public areas (p= 0.027), going to restaurants (p= 0.038), and attending wedding parties (p= 0.017) while breaking hygienic protocols with re-infection of covid-19 after the implementation of the vaccination program in participants.
Conclusions: Healthcare providers are at the risk of getting Covid-19 infection due to their job and work conditions. Accordingly, it is crucial to determine the rate of vaccine immunogenicity in this group to prioritize them for getting a booster dose of vaccine when it is necessary.
