Abstract
Background: Acute myocardial infraction as one of the most prevalent, serious, and fatal diseases continues to be the leading cause of mortalities and disabilities all over the world as well as in Iran. Many myocardial infraction patients die before arriving at hospitals. Quick early actions of an individual confronting the patient is a key feature for treatment, recovery, disease prognosis, and decreasing the mortalities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge of the myocardial infraction patients’ family members in confronting the emergency in MadaniHeartHospital. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included 300 family members of the patients suffering from myocardial infraction in Madani Heart Hospital who were selected randomly. A questionnaire was prepared in order to meet the research objectives. Findings: The results of study clearly indicated appropriate general awareness about heart attacks among the studied subjects. However, no significant correlations were found between their knowledge level and gender, age, and level of education. Conclusion: The results revealed the appropriateness of public awareness of heart attack symptoms. Provided that individuals apply simultaneous appropriate actions, it will be hoped that the mortalities will decrease. Therefore, further studies are needed to determine the practical abilities of family members in confronting theses patients.
