The Investigation of the Status of the Mental Health, Forgiveness and Intimacy in Women Participating in Quran Interpretation Training Courses on their Relationship with their Husbands

Abstract
Background and Aim: Available research evidence indicate that religious training has an important role in interpersonal relationship of spouses such as forgiveness, intimacy and mental health. The aim of the current research was to investigation of the status of mental health, forgiveness and intimacy in women participating in Quran interpretation training courses on their relationship with their husbands.
 
Materials and Methods: The present research is a cross- sectional and descriptive study which was done in 2015. The sampling method of this study was convenient sampling. The samples of the study consisted of 300 women who for more than one year regularly and constantly were participating in Quran interpretation training courses. The data were collected through Goldberg’s mental health questionnaire, Pollard, Anderson, Anderson, & Jennings’s family Forgiveness scale and Thompson and Walker’s Intimacy scale. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and regression analysis.
 
Results: According to the study findings there was a significant relationship between forgiveness and mental health (p < 0.01), intimacy and mental health (p < 0.01) and forgiveness and intimacy (p < 0.05).
 
Conclusion: The findings showed that there was a significant relationship between forgiveness and mental health. That means the increases in forgiveness were accompanied by increased mental health. There is also a significant relationship between intimacy and mental health. That is, the higher the level of intimacy in couples, the more mental health is observed within the couples. Finally, there is a significant relationship between forgiveness with intimacy. And couples who show more forgiveness show more intimacy. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the family counselors and psychologists, in order to improve the life quality of couples, should pay attention to the training of forgiveness and intimacy and other relevant trainings.
